Celebrating International Day of Peace: Home

Welcome

United Nations

Japanese Peace Bell and cherry blossoms at UN Headquarters

The Peace Bell was donated by the United Nations Association of Japan in 1954. It has become tradition to ring the bell twice a year: on the first day of spring, at the Vernal Equinox, and on 21 September to celebrate the International Day for Peace.

Peace Crane Project

"The Peace Crane Project invites every student on the planet to fold an origami crane, write a message of peace on its wings, then exchange it with another student somewhere in the world. The Project builds friendships, strengthens hand-eye coordination and writing skills, teaches geography, exposes students to new languages and cultures, and EMPOWERS YOUTH to make a difference in their community, country, and world. Classrooms, teachers, students, schools, community groups, and individuals are welcome. It’s FREE to participate! Looking for a project for your kids, but not up for a global exchange at this time? Look through our resources!"
